Making a difference

29 November, 20210 Comments

The Fran Anderson Making A Difference Scholarship is always awarded to one student from each of our four collaborating communities of Auburn Hills, Pontiac, Waterford and White Lake. They are students that go above and beyond to do something special or important, selflessly, for their community while in high school. Students may enter to win the $1,000 scholarship and are selected by a local official in the community.

Making a difference can be something as small as cleaning up litter in your local

Winter Sports

08 November, 20210 Comments

At the North Pole, the only sports we can play are those that take place outdoors. We play games like ice hockey and snowboarding, but do you know what other winter sports there are to play?

Hi, friends, I want to share with you five winter sports that are played around the world and a few details about how they are played.

  1. We must start with Hockey. This sport is played globally, and is an elf favorite. Two teams,

Forming Collections

Hi. I am Jingle, BinG’s close friend and assistant for Holiday Extravaganza year 40. I am happy to be helping with this event, but even more happy to be in Michigan. My jobs as elf have ranged from “White Winter Operator” to “Reindeer Antler Polisher.” I am 657 years old.

BinG asked me to help with Holiday Extravaganza because of my eye for fun, excitement and organization. BinG believes in me to make Holiday Extravaganza an event to remember for the collaborating communities. He wanted me to

Why is Holiday Extravaganza special?

22 October, 20210 Comments

HI IT’S LULU AND I’M TAKING OVER BINg’S BLOG TODAY!

MY FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING AN ELF IS HAVING ACCESS TO ENDLESS AMOUNTS OF MAGIC. DID YOU KNOW THAT EACH ELF SOURCES MAGIC FROM SOME PLACE DIFFERENT? FOR EXAMPLE, BINg GETS HIS MAGIC FROM SUGAR, AND CANDY AND OTHER SWEET THINGS THAT CONTAIN SUGAR. I LIKE SUGAR TOO, BUT I GET MY MAGIC FROM LOVE.

LOVE IS ALL THINGS WARM AND SWEET AND YOU CAN FIND IT ANYWHERE. LOVE IS SHARING YOUR FAVORITE SNACK OR SAVING THE LAST COOKIE FOR SOMEONE SPECIAL.

Our New Friend, McLaren Oakland

Hi, Friends! It’s me, BinG. I’m here today to share with you some exciting news. This year, Elf Headquarters is McLaren Oakland. We’ve had many fond friends over the years take us in and care for us while we helped prepare for the most magical event of the year, Holiday Extravaganza.

Some friends took us on Michigan adventures, others fed us too much sugar, and still others taught us about what makes the holidays special for the

Friends: It’s me, BinG!

It has been far too long since I last wrote to you, and I must apologize. Things have been mighty crazy over here at Holiday Extravaganza headquarters as we get ready for our biggest, grandest, most exciting parade EVER.

Holiday Extravaganza is always a big, grand and exciting event, but this year is going to blow the socks off of any previous event because this year, Holiday Extravaganza turns 40.

I’m sure you’ve heard by now: Holiday Extravaganza will be taking place at the M1 Concourse this year as a drive-thru event!!

It’s very exciting news, and LuLu and I are absolutely going crazy not being able to share with you all the fun surprises the Holiday Extravaganza team is brewing.

For example, you know the floats will be stationary this year. You know you’ll get to see the best costume characters. You also know Santa and his reindeer will be making a special social distanced trip to

Trying Ice Cream

03 November, 20200 Comments

In the North Pole, us elves like to eat a lot of different cold snacks. But LuLu and I have never tried ice cream.

I know! It’s crazy! A sugary dessert that an elf hasn’t tried.

My first flavor choice was vanilla, but I added all of my favorite candies and sauces on top. We put sprinkles, gummy worms, hot fudge, hot caramel, cherries, m&m’s and even added whipped cream.

Wow! I was so impressed with the deliciousness that I went back for seconds. This time, I took the moose tracks

Rooftop Reindeer

22 October, 20200 Comments

I have a secret.

Michigan has it’s very own North Pole – and it’s called Rooftop Landing Reindeer Farm.

This family owned and operated business is the perfect place to go when you want to pretend it’s below freezing and snowing while surrounded by Santa’s most faithful companions.

Friends, living so far away from home is so hard. It is rewarding to help plan the holiday event of the season, but not seeing my reindeer or elf friends for 5

Traditional Clothing

19 August, 20200 Comments

Let’s talk about clothes – more specifically, traditional clothing.

My elf ancestors traditionally wear very bright colors. If they are caught out in a snow storm they needed to make sure their friends and family could find them. Our favorite colors to wear are green and red.

The bright colored clothing is usually double insulated with animal hide to keep us warm during those impossibly cold (but very enjoyable) months.

Since coming to Michigan during these summer months, Lulu and I
