Friends ~

Today. Is a good. Day.

I had my monthly chat with Santa this morning and he said, “I am excited to come meet the boys and girls of Michigan!”

HE SAID THAT!!!

I’ve been here since the beginning of the year and know how wonderful all the kids are, but I didn’t know Santa knew that! :O

Oh boy, you guys are in for a real treat.

And by ‘real treat’ I totally mean all the snacks I’m arranging to have at Holiday Extravaganza, of course.

There will be free hot chocolate for everyone.

Hot Chocolate was first discovered in southern Mexico by the Olmec, an ancient civilization! They liked it because it was an “energy booster and mood enhancer,” which I find super cool. I use hot chocolate to keep warm on the chilly nights and chocolate always makes me happy …hehe sugar.

The awesome Olmecs passed on their find to the Mayan civilization who then passed it to the Aztecs. When the Aztecs were conquered by the Spanish, they took the hot chocolate back to Europe where it spread to the world!

If you LOVE hot chocolate just as much as me use the following recipe, from my good friends at Celebrating Sweets, to make yourself a sugary treat 😀

INGREDIENTS:

  • 4 cups milk (preferably whole or 2%)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup bittersweet or semisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bar
  • 1/4 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Place milk, cocoa powder and sugar in a small saucepan.
  • Heat over medium/medium-low heat, whisking frequently, until warm (but not boiling).
  • Add chocolate chips and whisk constantly until the chocolate chips melt and distribute evenly into the milk.
  • Whisk in vanilla extract
  • Serve immediately.

My elf friends add a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg for a different and exciting flavor. You could also add a dollop of whipped cream or marshmallow fluff to make your hot chocolate sweeter!!

Happy sugar-ing, friends ~
